A free, open-source alternative to Tinkerwell.
Tinkerwell is a polished commercial app, and a good one. Tinkr does the same core job for free, in the open, and adds a few things of its own.
What both do
- Run code in a local Laravel project, in a container, on a server over SSH, or in a Laravel Cloud environment.
- Keep snippets you reuse, and suggest your project's classes as you type.
- Show the queries a run sent.
- Complete code with an AI model of your choice.
What Tinkr adds
- MIT licensed and free, with every release built from public source.
- A sandboxed dry run: database writes taken back, and mail, jobs, HTTP calls, files, the cache and the log recorded instead of happening.
- An MCP server, so Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code run PHP through your connections, with the same guards.
- A log viewer with level, term and time filters, in its own window.
- Snippet forms: a snippet's variables as a form.
Where Tinkerwell is ahead
Tinkerwell has been around for years and has integrations Tinkr does not, such as Laravel Forge and Vapor, plus a native Intel Mac build. If those matter to you, it is worth its price.
Try it
Tinkr costs nothing to try. Install it, point it at a project, and run something.
Tinkerwell is a product of Beyond Code. This page compares publicly described features and may lag behind either app.
